An evergreen for the shady woodland garden, this tough shrub can compete with the dense roots of PNW native conifers. Adorned year-rough with long, shiny, dark green leaves with widely-spaced "teeth" along the edges. With branches that will fill out to the ground, it can be pruned into a boxy, informal hedge or allowed to form a rounded, natural background shrub. Somewhat drought tolerant once well-established.

This is a female selection -- it will produce bright red berries only if planted near a male Aucuba japonica, such as 'Longifolia'.

Mature size 4-7 ft tall x 4-7 ft wide

Minimum temperature: -10° F
